“Self-Portrait”

Between the computer, a pencil,
and a typewriter
half my day passes. One day it
will be half a century.
I live in strange cities and
sometimes talk
with strangers about matters
strange to me.
I listen to music a lot: Bach,
Mahler, Chopin, Shostakovich.
I see three elements in music:
weakness, power, and pain.
The fourth has no name.
I read poets, living and dead,
who teach me
tenacity, faith, and pride. I try to
understand
the great philosophers–but
usually catch just
scraps of their precious
thoughts.
I like to take long walks on Paris
streets
and watch my fellow creatures,
quickened by envy,
anger, desire; to trace a silver
coin
passing from hand to hand as it
slowly
loses its round shape (the
emperor’s profile is erased).
Beside me trees expressing
nothing
but a green, indifferent
perfection.
Black birds pace the fields,
waiting patiently like Spanish
widows.
I’m no longer young, but
someone else is always older.
I like deep sleep, when I cease
to exist,
and fast bike rides on country
roads when poplars and houses
dissolve like cumuli on sunny
days.
Sometimes in museums the
paintings speak to me
and irony suddenly vanishes.
I love gazing at my wife’s face.
Every Sunday I call my father.
Every other week I meet with
friends,
thus proving my fidelity.
My country freed itself from one
evil. I wish
another liberation would follow.
Could I help in this? I don’t
know.
I’m truly not a child of the
ocean,
as Antonio Machado wrote
about himself,
but a child of air, mint and cello
and not all the ways of the high
world
cross paths with the life that–so
far–
belongs to me.

ADAM ZAGAJEWSKI.

NELSON MANDELA LAID TO REST !

NELSON MANDELA(1918 – 2013).
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
“It always seems impossible until
it’s done.”
Nelson Mandela.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Death Is Like A Second Homecoming! Mandela Got That Today When His Earthly Guise Was Finally Laid To Rest In His Village ,QUNU !
Mandela Died On 5th December And There Had Been A Ten Days Mourning As Well As Celebration of His Life!Today’s Burial Was Live Telecast Around The Globe And I Saw It Was A Fine Sunny Day Today Unlike The Earlier Memorial Day Downpour! Death,if Followed By Raining, Is Hailed As A Grand Symbol ,For Heavens Receiveth The Soul In Gaiety ! And, Burial,If It Happens Under A Sunny Sky ,Is Hailed Great !
MADIBA,EVEN THROUGH SUCH BELIEFS OR SYMBOLISMS,DISPLAYED HE WAS GREAT !!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Nelson Mandela Was More Like A Phenomenon, An Institution Than Merely A Human Being And This Needs Celebration Through Practising His Teachings Plus Emulating His Life !
His Legacy Is Sublime That Requires The Best of Humanity To Carry On !
Human History Is Replete With Great Souls Who Rose To Occasions Displaying The Best Or Finest Possibilities This Humanity Could Attain! Mandela Is A Rare Specimen In Modern World Full of An Endless Pursuit of Power! He Served For Just A Single Term of Presidency! He Could Have Been Like A Putin or A Castro or Other Countless Rulers Who Never Shy Away From Clinging To Power n Post ! This Was Really Unique Trait of Nelson Mandela!
Secondly, He Was Again A Rare Specimen In This Modern World Full of Strifes And Revengeful Mindsets ! Instead, His Was All For Peace, Harmony n Reconciliation! Mandela Made His Oppressors His Friends And Brought The Whites n The Blacks n Others Together ! He Believed In Making Bridges Not In Creating Walls !
South Africa That Mandela Created Was A Beautiful Rainbow Assimilating All Colors Unto Itself !
Sadly,
Mandela Is No More Today, Neither His Nation A Beautiful Rainbow, Rather It Is Broken By Thunder n Lightenings of Social Unrest n Disparity Coupled With Corruption n Cut Throat Capitalism!
